Thirty-sixth Legislature. Senate. No. 17. Amendment ... to bill, An Act regulating the sale and redemption of lands taxed to non-resident owners and of other lands sold for taxes [1857?] If the taxes on a non-residents land were not paid within six months of the notice, a local jurisdiction could bring an action for debt. There were many rules to delay the process, including holding off on a judgment for a year, but eventually, the land would be sold for taxes, costs, and 20% per year interest. If a sale yielded more money than needed, there were rules for the excess. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
