Joint Select Comm. on the North East Boundary. Report, 1841
|
|
March 30, 1841 report of the Joint Select Committee regarding the state of the Northeastern boundary between Maine and Canada. After reviewing the history of the border and the relevant Treaty of 1783, as well as other documents, the committee proposed various resolutions which supported its interpretation of the border, acknowledged other states' support of same, and showed appreciation for the federal government's support of this cause. Of note, the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, signed August 9, 1842, resolved the tensions between Britain and Canada and the United States.
