|
|
1861-1863 Journal of the House of Delegates of the Commonwealth of Virginia, held at Wheeling, Virginia. These journals were of the "Reorganized" Government of Virginia, the government of Virginia that remained in the Union during the American Civil War. Wheeling, the provisional state capital, remained the site of this government until June 30, 1863 when fifty counties, including Wheeling, became part of the new state of West Virginia. The journals contained proceedings, proclamations by the governor (Francis H. Peirpoint), resolutions and other legislative matters. At the time of microfilming the Early State Records Collection, the Library of Congress was unable to locate a document for the May 6-15, 1862 session. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
