Attorney Gen. Opinion in re: Louisa R.R. Co., 1847
November 10, 1847 Virginia Attorney General S.S. Baxter's opinion regarding the 1847 act allowing the Louisa Railroad Company to raise capital to
extend the railroad to the base of the Blue Ridge. The Attorney General found that the railroad had complied to the terms of the act and allowed them
discretion to select the point of crossing that otherwise fulfilled the act's objectives. Thus the Board of Public Works was bound to subscribe to the
company stock as soon as private stockholder raised the required amount. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of
Congress).
