1852, Memorial on Maine Liquor Law
|
|
November 15, 1852 Memorial by various citizens of Halifax County, petitioning the General Assembly to not pass legislature similar to the Maine Liquor Law. Of note, this law, passed in 1851 in Maine, prohibited both the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages. The memorial argued to have "restraint" regarding alcohol, but never abolition in the state. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
