December 19, 1816 Report on Educations made to the General Assembly in its 1816 session by A.D. Murphey, and printed in Raleigh in 1817. The report
discussed the finances and needs for establishing schools throughout all counties and public education paid by the state for those unable to afford
it. a resolution was proposed which would appoint a select committee to establish a system of instruction consistent with the report. See LLMC #35129
