1854 Senate bill to incorporate the Chatham Railroad Company to construct a railroad between the coal fields on Deep River Chatham County to the
North Carolina Railroad at some point west of Raleigh. The bill provided for the subscription and corporate procedures, as well as all management and
other relevant construction and corporate matters. Also included were provisions for compensation for land used to construct the railroad and penalties
