1843 Report of the Joint Select Committee regarding the act for the relief of the Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad Company which provided for $300,000
in bonds, of which some were due. However due a recession stemming from the Panic of 1837, the bonds could not be paid and the committee proposed
an amendment that would allow the railroad to use $50,000 from the Literary Fund in the redemption of the bonds. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of
