Albemarle County, 1678-1739, Papers (MS)
|
|
Manuscript papers, in chronological order, from Albemarle County from 1678 to 1739; part 1 covered 1678 to 1714, and part 2 covered 1715 to 1739. Of note the description of land parcels was less than technical, relying on local landmarks or topography. An example from 1682 of a parcel of land convened to John Lear described a section as "northerly two hundred poles [a surveyors tool and unit of length equal to 5 1/2 yards] to a Marches white Oak by or nigh the head of a great White Marsh's and so along the said marsh..." Some images are faded or in poor condition, making legibility an issue. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Department of Archives and History in Raleigh, North Carolina).
