|
|
1861 transmittal by Governor John W. Ellis to the General Assembly of a Georgia ordinance and resolutions, as well as resolutions from Tennessee. Georgia proclaimed its secession from the United States, and invited other slave-holding states to similarly hold conventions. Tennessee resolved to defend itself, along with all Southern states, against any armed forces from New York (under the direction of the United States).
