1851, Governor. Communications from Maryland & Vermont
1851 Message from Governor David S. Reid, submitting communications from the Convention of Maryland and a resolution from Vermont to the North
Carolina General Assembly. Maryland resolutions indicated acquiescence of the extension of the Missouri Compromise, while requesting the non-slaveholding
states enact laws to return runaway slaves. The Vermont resolution requests that the President propose the establishment of a permanent board to
settle all international disputes or claims of all nations that have diplomatic relations with the United States. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of
titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
