1851 Message from Governor David S. Reid to the General Assembly. The governor recommended a number of acts to be passed by the legislature, including allowing the Commissioner to contract the construction of the Western Turnpike Road in smaller increments, relief for debtors to the state for purchase of Cherokee lands, and sale of unsold Cherokee lands to actual settlers.
