1940? Select Committee regarding the Virginia governor's demand to the governor of New York for the return of three fugitives accused of stealing a
slave in Virginia. The New York governor refused to return these men, citing that New York law neither recognized slavery nor the felony of stealing
one man from another. Of note, the committee found these actions were dangerous, but determined not to act in a rash manner, noted as it was for
chivalry. Further correspondence and other similar actions were resolved by the committee. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by
