Tyler. Resignation of John Tyler, Esq., 1836
February 29, 1836 resignation of John Tyler, then Senator representing Virginia. Tyler resigned rather than vote for resolution which would have
expunged the journal of a prior Senate, in which President Jackson was censured for his order to move money from the United States Bank to state banks.
Tyler considered repealing or rescinding the only constitutional options. Of note, he became President in April 1841, following the death of William
Henry Harrison. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Duke University Library in Durham, North Carolina).
