Herron. Report of civil engineer on railroad, etc., 1834
|
|
January 19, 1834 Report of James Herron, civil engineer, of a survey for a railroad and and M'adamized turnpike between the Tennessee line and the James and Kanawha River improvement. Of note, a macadam road was composed of a compacted sub-grade of crushed granite or greenstone, covered stone (no more than six ounces each) to absorb wear and tear and shed water to the drainage ditches (see, https://www.britannica.com/technology/macadam-road-construction). Attached were numerous tables, and other relevant documents, in order to determine which method would be best for the state. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by Duke University Library in Durham, North Carolina).
