1864 Series of documents given to Governor William Smith regarding the status and other details about purchases made in Europe by the past Governor John Letcher. Of note, some of the purchases were on the ship Dare, which was grounded in South Carolina in order to avoid the Union blockage; much was plundered by Confederate troops. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
