June 17, 1776 letter of departure and postscript from Governor William Franklin to the General Assembly, defending himself and his loyalist
sentiments against the resolutions of the New Jersey Provincial Congress. Franklin, the illegitimate son of Benjamin Franklin, indicated that he had been
placed under house arrest during the conflict and required to not provide any intelligence to Britain, per order of the Provincial Congress. (Digitized
