1832-01-11, Act appointing guardian for the Narragansett Tribe (MS)
|
|
1832 Bill of the General Assembly to appoint a guardian for the Narragansett Indians, with some edits. Of note, this bill was continued for a year until the 1833 session. Sections included provisions to lease property of the tribe and of those deemed not to improve appropriately; the right to sell timber; ability to hire out poor Indian children in the same way as overseers of the towns' poor children do so; and numerous other sections. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Rhode Island Department of State).
