1759-08-29, George II's order to resolve the dispute between the Delaware and the Proprietors (MS)
Wrapper: 20 Aug. 1759 Office copy Order of Councill on Benj. Franklin's peticon for the Indians agt. the Pennsylvania Proprietors. Present: the
King's Most Excellent Majesty and ten Council members. The text briefly re-stated the petition. which was considered by His Majesty and the Council.
They directed His Majesty's Agent for Indian Affairs [William Johnson] to examine the complaint and call an early meeting so both sides could lay out
their evidence. The minutes of the meeting and Johnson's suggestion for a resolution were to be sent to the Lords Commission for Trade and
Plantations. There the order ends, with no suggestion as to who would make the final decision. (Digitized from a microfilm copy held at the Pennsylvania State
