1845, Governor's objections to Howe v. Washington Bridge Co.
June 9, 1845 message by Governor Roger S. Baldwin of Connecticut to the General Assembly disapproving of the assembly's resolution regarding John J.
Howe and others v. The Washington Bridge Company. Baldwin's objections were based on the 1802 and 1808 resolutions regarding the construction of the
bridge; requiring the Washington Bridge Company to bear the cost of a new bridge was a violation of the property rights. Accordingly, the governor
refused to approve the resolution. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Connecticut Historical Society Library).
