August 30, 1799 notice issued by Governor Jonathan Trumbull. regarding the upcoming special election to fill the vacated Congressional House seat of John Allen. This notice was sent to all the freemen in the towns of Tomess and Tolland, Connecticut. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Connecticut Historical Society Library).

To the sheriff of the county of [blank] and to either of the constables of the town of [blank] within said county : Greeting : Whereas the Honorable John Allen, Esquire has resigned his seat as a representative of the people of this state, in the sixth Congress of the United States : by authority of the state of Connecticut, you are hereby required to give legal warning to all the freemen in said town of [blank] to meet ... on the third Monday of September next ... to give their votes, as the law directs, for a representative of the people of this state, in the sixth Congress of the United States, in the room of the said Honorable John Allen, Esquire, resigned.
