1746-08, Treaty with the Six Nations
A treaty between Governor George Clinton of the Province of New York and the Six United Indian Nations and other Nations, held in August and
September, 1746. This document appeared to be report of the meetings between these parties, rather an an official treaty signed on a date specific. Included
was a speech written by the governor, although given by Cadwallader Colder of the Majesty's Council, which discussed the French actions in Canada and
the needed support by the Nations. In response, the Six nations agreed to fight against the French and in support of the British. Of note, following
these meetings, the report indicated that many delegates from the Six Nations became sick, including the young men, (presumably from the British) and
died. This slowed down the expedition of the Nations into Canada. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the New York
Historical Society Library).
