The Duke of York's Laws, dated 1665, in manuscript, drawn up by Governor Richard Nicolls of New York in order to create a more unified legal system
in the newly created Yorkshire (now Long Island, Staten Island and Westchester County), although it eventually covered the entire province of New York.
Most of the code relied on existing Massachusetts and New Haven laws. A note indicated that this version was a photostatic reproduction of the "The
Roslyn Copy" then found at the North Hempstead Town Hall, and was copied in 1944. Of note, this version of the Duke's Laws appears more legible than
