Chenault, Henry L. Clemency review, 1919-1931
Clemency review file containing personnel, procedural letters, recommendations, etc. of Henry L. Chenault: October 23, 1931, 29 p., typed,
handwritten, and manuscript, October 23, 1931. ( The clemency review file of Henry L. Chenault, a Private who served in Company I of the 24th infantry, and was
convicted of disobeying orders, mutiny, murder of 14 persons, and assault with intent to kill eight persons. He was found guilty and sentenced to be
dishonorably discharged and hung. The sentence was approved by the reviewing authority, but commuted by the President to dishonorable discharge and
confinement to hard labor for life. In April 1924 the Clemency Board recommended that as much of his sentence to confinement that exceeds 20 years be
remitted. A Memorandum from the The Office of the Judge Advocate General dated October 23, 1931 does not recommend any further extension than the
Clemency Board.)
