United States, War Department, Office of the Judge Advocate General, 1924. ( The clemency review file of Ben McDaniel, formerly a Private in the 24th
Infantry, who was convicted by a General Court Martial of mutiny, murder, and felonious assault for his role in the race riots in Houston, Texas on August
23, 1917. He was sentenced to dishonorable discharge, total forfeitures, and confinement to hard labor for life. His sentence was eventually reduced
to nineteen years and three months. A summary of the three Privates who testified at his trial is included, however the accused did not testify or make
a statement. He was granted parole on June 5, 1924.)
