Clemency review file containing personnel, procedural letters, recommendations, etc. of Walter Burkett: August 20, 1932, 20 p., typed and
handwritten, Adjutant General's Office, August 20, 1934. ( The clemency review file of Walter Burkett, formerly a Private in the 24th Infantry who was convicted
of disobeying orders, mutiny, murder, and assault with intent to commit murder in connection with the riots of the 24th Infantry in Houston, Texas,
August 23, 1917. He was sentenced to be dishonorably discharged and confined in a penitentiary for life. A Private from Company M testified at the trial
and a brief summary of his testimony is contained in a memorandum for the Judge Advocate General dated March 27, 1919. Clemency was not recommended
by the acting Judge Advocate General in a memorandum dated July 18, 1919. Several handwritten letters from Private Burkett to the Judge Advocate
General appear in the file. A memorandum to the Judge Advocate General dated August 14, 1934 recommends that the portion of his sentence not served be
remitted.)
