Clemency review file containing personnel, procedural letters, recommendations, etc. of John Adams: June 8, 1934, 13 p., June 8, 1934. ( The
clemency review file of John Adams, formerly a Private in the 24th Infantry, who was convicted of disobeying an order, mutiny, murder, and assault with
intent to commit murder in connection with the race riots in Houston, Texas, on August 23, 1917. He was sentenced to be dishonorably discharged with total
forfeitures, and confined to hard labor in a penitentiary for life. He testified that when the firing started in camp on the night of the riot he ran
to the woods and reported to Camp Logan, an army training camp the next day. On June 4, 1934 the Judge Advocate General's Office recommended that the
remainder of his sentence be remitted. Documents include the Report of the Clemency Board dated April 2, 1924, and communications to the Judge
Advocate General regarding the case.)
