|
|
Co-recipient of the Adams Prize in European History, 1907 awarded by the Am. Hist. Assoc. The author sets forth a scholarly discussion of the theory, history, and operation of the interdict. In the appendix beginning on p.86, there is a listing and explanation of the interdicts from 1198 to 1216. The author has opted for an arrangement in three groupings: threats of interdict, possible cases, and actual cases of interdict. Within each group, he has used a combined chronological and topical arrangement. There is a bibliography (pp.164-173) and an index (pp.175-184).
