British and foreign state papers: comp. by the Librarian and Keeper of the Papers, Foreign Office, 1812/14-1967/68, Vol. 1-170, London, James
Ridgeway & Sons., and successors, 1841-1977, all published. (The indexing in this set is as follows: Vols.1-63, as v.64; Vols. 95-92, as v. 93; Vols. 94-114,
as v. 115; Vols. 116-135, as v. 138; Vols. 139-164, as v. 165; and Vols. 166-169, as v. 170. In general, most of the materials are in the main
diplomatic languages of English or French. As stated in an advertisement in the mid-1830s announcing the reprinting for public sale of the earlier volumes:
“This Publication is intended to comprise the principle Documents which have been made public, relating to the Political and Commercial Affairs of
Nations, and to their Relations with each other, from the termination of the War in 1814 to the latest Period. The work was formerly printed, exclusively
for the use of the Government, and of its Diplomatic Agents Abroad. But the general interest attached to these Collections has led to its
publication.” For all of its years, this publication was compiled and published by the Foreign Office, which itself was founded in 1782. The publication of the
documents ceased with the year 1968, reflecting the date when the Foreign Office was merged into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.)
