Spencer, GovPr., 1873? (Lacks TOC & index. Edward Wilmot Blyden, a medical doctor, was among the most erudite of the educated Africans of his time. At the
time of this expedition, he was in the service of Governor Pope Hennessey of British-ruled, but still not fully formed, Sierra Leone. The expedition
described in the report was from Kambia, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone, to the King of Timbo, in the native country of Futa Jalon. Futa
Jalon at the time was a Muslim theocracy dominant in a large territory in West Africa that extended from modern Cote d’Ivoire to Mauritania and Mali.
Blyden’s expedition was an opening act in a decades-long contest between Great Britain and France for dominance of the interior of West Africa. The print
text of this title was scanned from Lincoln’s Inn Library pamphlet volume MP 69.)
