Reports of cases determined by the Court of Appeal of New Zealand: ed. by Alexander J. Johnston, Vol. 1-3, Wellington, G. Didbury, GovPr., 1872-77, all published. (The New Zealand judicial system was divided into three Supreme Court districts: the Northern, comprised of the provinces of Auckland, Taranaki {New Plymouth}, and Hawkes Bay; the Middle, comprised of the provinces of Wellington, Marlborough & Nelson; and the Southern, comprised of the provinces of Christchurch & Otago. Each of these districts was presided over by one Chief Judge and two puisne judges, who held a periodical assize in the chief towns of each province for the trial of criminal and civil cases beyond the jurisdiction of the magistrates’ courts. Appeals were to the Court of Appeals of New Zealand, staffed by the three chief judges of the district courts sitting en banc. Appeals beyond that, if allowed, were to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.)
