Colonization; Being remarks on colonization in general, with an examination of the proposals of the Association which has been formed for colonizing New Zealand: 3ed, by John Beecham, (1)_4-67 + map, London, Hatchards and Hamilton, Adams, & Co., 1838.(Lacks TOC & index. John Beecham, 1787-1856, was an English writer and Wesleyan preacher of considerable influence because of his writings and speeches on the work of the missions. In 1831 he was appointed as General Secretary of the Wesleyan Missionary Society. This pamphlet narrates his and the Society’s discomfort with regard to plans of the New Zealand Association to colonize New Zealand. Their objections were not to the feasibility of the colonization plan itslef, but rather to the harm British colonization was likely to cause to the lives and cultures of the native peoples. For a similar argument, see also the title by the Church Missionary Society’s E.G. Marsh, LLMC Title No. 57054. The print text of this title was scanned from Lincoln’s Inn Library pamphlet volume MP 79.)
