1889, Commercial Code (1931) (League of Nations Association of Japan)
The commercial code of Japan, Annotated: n.a., Vol. 1-4, Tokyo, published by the Codes translation Committee of the League of Nations Association of
Japan, Agent, Maruzen Co., 1931. (A first attempt at a Japanese commercial code under governmental sponsorship by a German named Reusler was made in
the 1880s, culminating in the promugation of a full code in 1898. This first code, an amalgam of the German and French models, was quickly judged to be
inadequate to Japanese requirements. Therefore a revision effort was soon undertaken, with the result that a revised code, based much more closely on
the German model, was promulgated in 1899. The principal draftsman for the present annotated work was Kenzo Takayanagi, professor of law at Tokyo
Imperial University.)
