Bodkin, Famous Irish trials, 1918
|
|
Famous Irish Trials written by M. McDonnell Bodkins and published in Dublin in 1918. Of note, the final case dealt with the Forgeries Commission and the claim by Charles Stewart Parnell that a letter, tying him to several murders and printed by a newspaper, was a forgery. Parnell, an Irish nationalist politician in the British House of Commons in the 1880s, ultimately was proven innocent when the perpetrator of the forgery admitted his guilt. This letter, however, was published on the same date as the second reading of a Perpetual Crimes (Coercion) Act, apparently to sway opinion in its support.
