LLMC-Digital has just added three collections of primary documents relating to New Spain spanning the period from 1251 to 1889.

The two main collections of documents were compiled in the 19th century from the Archives of the Indies and the Spanish Royal Academy of History.

The first, Colección de documentos inéditos relativos al descubrimiento, conquista y organización de las antiguas posesiones españolas de America y Oceania (LLMC 38000), in 42 volumes,  covers the period from 1251 to 1796.   Each document is transcribed from the original manuscript as written and they contain the laws of New Spain as well as documents from the Royal and Supreme Council of the Indies.

The second title, Colección de documentos inéditos relativos al descubrimiento, conquista y organización de las antiguas posesiones españolas de ultramar (LLMC 38001), was conceived as second series to the previous work.   Among the many royal communiqués, legal documents, historical reports
and narratives, this collection includes the Documents of the Council of the Indies, three volumes dealing with Cuba, two volumes on the Philippines among others.  The last two volumes of this collection index the contents of both titles.   Tome 26 is an alphabetical index of personal names and the last volume (t. 27) is a chronological index of all the documents reproduced.

Since these two series relate to multiple modern jurisdictions, if you browse the collections for Spain or Cuba for two examples, you will find these titles added there.

Finally, Documentos históricos (LLMC 33003) brings together a compendium of laws, manifestos, decrees, regulations, and other documents issued by the revolutionary authorities during Cuba’s fight for independence from Spain between 1895-1898.
