On January 28, 2022, BIA's annual list of Recognized Indian and Alaskan Native entities was published in the Federal Register. There were only six name changes this year and no new entries to the list. These six have been edited on the LLMC Indigenous Law Portal. Additionally, authority records have been created with links back to the previous form of the tribes' name.
Additions and changes are continually happening to the site. Of note, we're starting to add Indian groups that enjoy state recognition. These "state-only" recognized tribes can be identified by an asterisk following their entries. For an example, take a look at the entries for Alabama.
In the meantime, If you come across any new entries that would enhance the site, please feel free to send a note to Richard Amelung ( richard.amelung@slu.edu ) with your proposed contribution.
