This content update will summarize additions to our collections from April to December 2020. If you have any specific questions about our content or suggestions for future additions, please feel free to contact me at kurtm@llmc.com
LLMC's U.S. states and territories collections continue to grow. We added a significant number of fill-ins to our Louisiana session laws thanks to a donation from the Law Library of Congress. These fill-ins typically were from the late 19th century. We also added the 2019 Code of Massachusetts Regulations and 2019 Massachusetts Register issues thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Social Law Library.
The Early State Records (ESR) project continues, and its contributions to our collections are too numerous to describe here adequately. We have seen additions to our state session laws and our state house and senate journal collections thanks to Early State Records. States with the most significant gains include Arkansas, Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas.
As we make progress digitizing Texas ESR microfilm, numerous interesting titles are showing up. These include a short run of a Texas newspaper called the Mexican Citizen, which contained local and foreign news, poetry, and economic data. This publication will soon be online, so I have attached a table from 1830-31 describing cotton market statistics for those who are curious to see a part of it now. Soon we will also have several issues of the Telegraph and Texas Register (abstract information is currently available), which were published as the Republic of Texas was formed.
We also have a lengthy run of the Oregon Spectator. This newspaper was the first of its kind west of the Rocky Mountains, and it included political debates and legislative proceedings. Our holdings go from 1846-1854. We also have online the Vermont Gazette, and our holdings go from 1784-1793.
This year we welcomed Joe Hinger to our staff, and he has made a significant impact on our collections. He took it upon himself to update and fill in our federal U.S. government document holdings. As a result, our holdings for the following titles have been enhanced: the United States Government Manual, Federal Judicial Center Annual Reports, United States Economic Indicators, the Social Security Bulletin, and Library of Congress Annual Reports. As part of this effort, our holdings for the Military Law Review have also been updated.
A handful of United States legal newspapers have been added to our collections and we hope to expand these in the future. These include the Legal Intelligencer and the Chicago Legal News. LLMC is actively seeking pre-1925 volumes to expand our coverage for these titles.
Of course, we have also been steadily adding to our foreign collections. In Canada, we added volumes for both the Canadian Federal Court Reports and the Canadian Supreme Court Reports.
We also have many enhancements to our United Kingdom collections. These include the Northern Ireland Law Reports and an early run of the Scottish Law Review and Sheriff Court Reports, both digitized from print donations. LLMC also continues digitizing its fiche collections, and as a result, we digitized lengthy runs of the Solicitors Journal, the Weekly Notes, and the Weekly Reporter. We also digitized a run of the Scots Statutes Revised, which extends from 1701 to 1900.
We've also made additions to our Cuban collections. These include fill-ins of the Gaceta Oficial from the 1950s-1960s and a publication discussing mortgage law in Cuba from the 1920s. We also added numerous volumes of the Boletin Judicial from Costa Rica as a result of our ongoing project with Google to digitize gazettes from Latin America
In Germany, we continue to digitize historical treatises from the Berlin State Library and historical dissertations from the University of Pennsylvania. You can browse the bulk of the titles on the collection level by going to our Germany, States, Kingdoms, Free Cities or our Germany, Theses, dissertations collections.
Last but certainly not least, we continue to digitize materials as a result of our collaboration with Laws.Africa and AfricanLII. Most recently, we digitized lengthy runs of the South African Government Gazette and the Staatskoerant. We will be working with our partners to fill in gaps for both of these titles.
