Contribute to LLMC’s Database

LLMC welcomes donations of print or microform materials that support our mission to preserve and provide access to historic, government, and legal literature from around the world. If you or your institution have materials that may be suitable for digitization, we’d love to hear from you.

Because LLMC does not license content, all materials we digitize must be in the public domain or otherwise copyright-free. We focus primarily on government publications, historical legal texts, and other non-commercial legal resources that are not otherwise widely available in digital form.

What We’re Looking For

We are especially interested in:

Historical legal treatises and case reporters
Government documents and legislative materials
Legal periodicals, especially Official Gazettes
Foreign, comparative, and international law titles
Rare or fragile legal publications that may benefit from preservation

Our priority is to fill gaps in our digital collections, avoid unnecessary duplication, and preserve materials that are at risk of loss or deterioration.

What types of materials can I donate?

We accept books, periodicals, government documents, and archival materials that are legal in nature and in the public domain. This includes both U.S. and foreign publications.

Do materials need to be in perfect condition?

No. We can often digitize materials even if they are worn, marked, or missing covers. However, extremely damaged or incomplete items may not be suitable for scanning.

How do I know if something is copyright-free?

In general, materials published before 1930 or 70 years after the death of all the authors/creators of the work are in the public domain in the United States. For more recent publications, we assess copyright status on a case-by-case basis. You are welcome to contact us for help evaluating your materials. Copyright law for non-U.S. materials varies significantly. Please contact us for help evaluating your materials.

Will my materials be returned after scanning?

In most cases, we do not return materials after scanning unless specific arrangements are made in advance. Donated materials become part of our physical archive or may be responsibly recycled once digitized.

Do you provide acknowledgments or receipts for donations?

Yes. Upon request, we can provide written acknowledgment of your donation for your records. However, we do not appraise donated materials for tax purposes.

How do I start the donation process?

Please contact us at llmc@llmc.com with an initial brief description of the materials you would like to donate. Ultimately, a title list will be required. We will review the information and let you know if we’re able to accept the donation, or which titles and/or volumes within the donation.
