Aspland, the Law of Blasphemy, 1884
The Laws of Blasphemy: being a candid examination of the view of Mr. Justice Stephen, written by Lindsey Middleton Aspland and published in London in
1884. The preface indicated that the differing views of blasphemy, which in the author's opinion, centered on the manner of the delivery of the
opinions, not the content. Moreover, the author sought to demonstrate that religious liberty and blasphemy laws could co-exist. In addition to the
text, there was an appendix which contained an essay on religious offenses by Edgar Taylor, and a speech by Lord Mansfield.
