C. C. Macrae's Manuscript report of the proceedings of the cases of Ameer Khan and Hashmadad Khan, published in 1870 at the "Englishman" Press in
Calcutta, India. This report includes the arguments, judgment , regulation and acts and affidavits (the latter three found in the appendix) used at the
the hearing of for a writ of habeas corpus for the both men, who had imprisoned in India upon order of the Governor-General, without learning the
charges against them. Judge Norman of the High Court ultimately refused these writs, ruling that the Indian legislature had the power to allow the
Governor General to arrest and detain citizens suspected of offences against the tranquility of the state; and that this power could be granted, despite the
long history and British constitution allow for writs of habeas corpus. While the report is in manuscript, the appendix attachments are printed.
