American and British Claims Arbitration: Claim No. 29, The Coquitlam, Memorandum of the oral argument of the United States in opposition to the claim: 21p., Place of publication and publisher not identified, 1914. (The U.S. Memorandum of Oral Argument in a claim involving the seizure of the British ship Coquitlam at Port Etches, Hinchinbrook Island (Alaska) by the United States cutter Corwin. In its memorandum the U.S. concedes liability for damages, but argues there must be “reasonable proof” as to the amount of losses. The second point in the U.S. argument is that losses must have resulted “directly” from the seizure. The Tribunal held that because United States judicial authorities had decided the application of the relevant Customs Statutes was wrong the U.S. was liable.)
