Description and Holding Information
1907-1914, G.B./U.S., Elizabeth Cadenhead (G.B.) v. United States (U.S. Answer)
American and British Claims Arbitration: Cadenhead Case, Answer of the United States: 162p., Place of publication and publisher not identified, 1914?
(This is one of a series of Arbitration Claims between Great Britain and the United States. Elizabeth Cadenhead, a British citizen, was accidently
killed by a U.S. soldier attempting to capture a prisoner escaping from Fort Brady outside of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The United States argued that
the soldier acted in conformity with his military duty and there was no denial of justice. The arbitral tribunal disallowed Great Britain’s claim, but
suggested the U.S. compensate her relatives for their “distressing circumstances.” The decision may be found in Reports of International Arbitral
Awards, Volume VI, pp. 40-41.)
