The revised statutes of Manitoba, 1970: n.a., Vol. 1-5, (Winnipeg?), R.S. Evans, Queen’s Printer, 1970-; Plus a supplement to Vol. 4., all published(Readers are warned that the organization of this revision is not easy to navigate, not in the paper version, and even less on line. The general organizing principle is that, all legislation relating to a given subject is located in an omnibus act related to that subject. These omnibus acts are printed in Vol. 1-4, and are presented alphabetically by the most relevant word in name of act; e.g. Department of Agriculture Act, Dower Act, Act Respecting School Attendance. So the reader will have to guess at the likely operative word in the act desired. In general, unless one is sure of the exact name of the act, it is best to begin one’s research by consulting the Index, Vol. 5. The Index is organized alphabetically, and is tagged online by LLMC to the first three letters of the relevant word for that page. Searching alphabetically enables one to discover, either the name of an act, or a “see” reference to the omnibus act where that subject is covered. Once one finds the appropriate act in the index, there is no information as to where that act is found in Vol. 1-4. So it helps to know that the general alphabetical order of Vols. 1-4 is: V.1, A to Electoral; V.2, Electrician to Land; V. 3, Law to Public; & V.4, Real to Z. Each act in Vol. 1-4 is paginated separately, rendering the pagination in these volumes near useless also. Therefore, LLMC has tagged Vol. 1-4 alphabetically also. The Table of Contents (TC) for each act is found only in the Index Volume, and is not repeated with the act itself. So it will be useful to bookmark the TC in Vol. 5 before looking up the act itself, remembering that the TCs are geared, not to pagination, but to section. Finally, the Supplement to Vol. 4 contains various traditional schedules relating the 1970 revision to past revisions in matters of repeal, etc. Schedule A starts at p.1, B {p.43}, C {44}, D {53}, E {96}, & F {120}. In addition, Appendix A provides relevant English acts {p.1-78}; App. B provides relevant Canadian statutes {p. 79-124}; and App.3 provides the 1970 Revision Enabling Act {p.1-7}.)
