Watson, 1880, Powers of Canadian Parliaments
The Powers of Canadian Parliaments: by Samuel J. Watson, xii+9-160p, Toronto, C.B. Robinson, 1880. (Watson, whose full name was supplied by Los
Angeles County Law Library cataloging, was the Librarian of the Ontario Parliament. The work is focused on the powers of the provincial parliaments,
particularly those of Ontario and Quebec. “The purpose of this volume is to show that the present Legislatures of Ontario and Quebec are the political
heirs-at-law of the old historical Parliaments of Upper and Lower Canada, and of the late Province of United Canada. Its object is also to make manifest
that these legislatures of Ontario and Quebec inherit the powers of the Representative Bodies which preceded them; and that they were established, and
that they exist to perform the functions and duties which render necessary the life of a Colonial Parliament.”—p. 9.)
