The code of civil procedure of the State of California: 1st ed., annotated by Creed Haymond and John C. Burch of the California Code Commission, Vol. 1-2, San Francisco, A.L. Bancroft & Co., and Sumner Whitney & Co., 1874, all published. (In 1870 a Code Commission was appointed to draft “a complete system of laws for presentation to and later enactment by the Legislature. The Commission was formed of Creed Haymond, Chair, John C. Burch, and John H. McKune. It’s work was presented in four volumes, respectively entitled the “Political,” “Civil,” “Civil Procedure.” and “Penal” Codes. These were enacted into law in 1872 and published by the State in four single volumes. Subsequently, two of the Commissioners, Haymond and Burch, authored annotated editions of those basic codes, which were published commercially in 1872 and reprinted in 1874 {the printing offered here}. As the authors explain in their preface: “The Code of Civil procedure relates to Courts of justice and judicial officers, etc., and the means employed for the enforcement of rights and the remedies for their violation.”)
