The code of Virginia; With the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States; And the Constitution of Virginia; Published
pursuant to an act of the General Assembly of Virginia, approved May twenty-one, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven: na, xvi+1177+(1)p., Richmond, James
E. Goode, 1887. (The revisers are named in the preface as being: E.C. Burks, Waller R. Staples and John W. Riely. The title page for this revision
lists the publication date as being 1887,and the effective date of the revision was expected to be early 1888. However: “In the course of publication,
some material errors in the text, resulting from oversight, were discovered, and, on the suggestion of the revisers, corrected by the General Assembly.
It was provided by the Code, that it should be in force upon and after the first day of February, 1888, but it was found necessary to extend the time
till the first day of May, 1888. This was done by amending and re-enacting sections 4202, 4203 and 4204.”—Pref. p.5. (This is the second official
revision and codification of the statutes of Virginia. It was preceded by the official revision of 1847 and followed by the official revision of 1819.)
