|
|
May 6, 1776 ordinances passed at the convention held at Williamsburg, Virginia. The ordinances began with the declaration that "all men by nature equally free and independent, and have certain inherent rights." Of equal significance, on page 7, the ordinance declared that the former government under Great Britain was "TOTALLY DISSOLVED" (capitalization in original). Other provisions included the structures of the government and the militia, and reiterated the types of offenses and punishments for enemies of the America. See LLMC #22166 for a related document.
