Description and Holding Information
1860-62, Convention journal, 1862
Journal of the State of South Carolina during the four sessions held in 1860-62. The first session, begun on December 17, 1860, dealt with the
issues of secession and the creation of the provisional government of the Confederacy. The second session began on March 26, 1861 with the primary purpose
to consider the Constitution of the Confederate States of America, which was submitted by the Congress in Montgomery, Alabama. A third session,
begun on December 26, 1861, reviewed the current state of the "hostile" invasion and allowed for strengthening the executive department during the war. A
subsequent fourth session, begun on September 9, 1862, repealed this ordinance to strengthen the executive department. Other pertinent issues were
also considered. Of note, there were "secret" sessions throughout the various sessions, which were reported in these documents. See LLMC #21134-41
for related documents. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
