1756-01-08, Treaty with the Indians
|
|
January 8-9, 1756 Treaty between the government of New Jersey and the Indians living in some parts of the Province. The Indians are identified by where they are from rather than a tribe, i.e., Cranberry [Cranbury] Indians, the Pompton Indians, the Southern Jersey Indians and the Croswick [Crosswicks] Indians. Given the on-going French and Indian war, the purpose of the treaty is to maintain peace between the Indians and the colonists by setting boundaries beyond which the Indians will venture. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the New Jersey State Library).
