1828, House. Comm. on Elections. Report on election of W.B. Adams

H.R. No. 33 The Committee on Elections reported on February 2, 1828 that William B. Adam's right to a seat in the House had been challenged. Mr. Adams worked as a Deputy Collector for the federal customs house. Massachusetts Constitution does not allow federal employees to be in the Legislature, so Mr. Adams would have to give up his seat. The Committee on Elections who were instructed to enquire into the right of William B. Adams of Marblehead, to a seat in this House, have attended to that duty, and held several meetings in relation thereto, by adjournment at his request, at all of which he was present, and now they respectfully report ... .
